ezeep alternative

An ezeep alternative that members use without installing anything

ezeep Blue is a popular choice for coworking printing, with integrations for many coworking platforms. Commontray takes a different route: members print from a web page with no app, documents wait for a QR scan at the printer, and color is charged only on the pages that have it.

The short answer

ezeep Blue or Commontray?

Choose ezeep Blue if members want printers in every app’s print dialog, you have printers that need drivers, or your coworking platform is one ezeep connects to and Commontray doesn’t. Choose Commontray if you’d rather nobody installs anything, want color charged page by page, and prefer one price per location to a price per user.

Choose ezeep Blue if…

  • Members want to print from any app’s print dialog.
  • Some printers need a manufacturer’s driver.
  • Your platform is OfficeRnD, Archie, Deskworks, Spacebring, Cobot or Coworks.
  • You have up to 10 users and want a free plan by user count.
  • You want guests to join by scanning a QR code and accepting an email invitation.

Choose Commontray if…

  • Members print from a web page, with no app to install.
  • You want color charged page by page, and only once it has printed.
  • You run on Nexudus, or bill from a CSV.
  • You’d rather pay per location than per user.
  • You want the printers off the shared network, with the Commontray Box’s printer port.

What ezeep Blue does well

Coworking platforms

ezeep connects to more coworking and space management platforms than anyone else we looked at, and imports new members automatically.

Older printers

Its cloud driver pool means printers that need a manufacturer’s driver can still be used.

The normal print dialog

With the ezeep app installed, members print from Word, a browser or any other app the usual way.

A free plan

Small teams of up to 10 users can use ezeep Blue for free.

Where Commontray is different

Less to install, fairer to the page

No app at all

Members open the print page in the browser they already have. New members print on their first day without installing anything, and there’s no app to support. See mobile printing.

Color, page by page

A 20-page document with one chart is 19 black & white pages and one color page, even when it’s sent in color. See charging and credits.

Charged after printing

Nothing is charged until the printer reports what it printed. Failed, cancelled and never-released jobs cost nothing.

Per location, not per member

Member numbers change every month; Commontray’s price per location doesn’t. See pricing.

Questions

ezeep alternative questions

Does Commontray work with Nexudus, like ezeep does?

Yes. With the Nexudus integration, members sign in with their Nexudus account, printing credit is used first and charges go on their Nexudus invoice. ezeep supports more coworking platforms today, so if yours isn’t Nexudus, check both.

Can members print from Word’s print dialog with Commontray?

No. With Commontray people upload the document on the print page, from any phone or laptop, or email it. Nothing is added to their computer’s printer list. If printing from every app’s print dialog matters most, ezeep’s app does that.

Does Commontray need hardware like the ezeep Hub?

Commontray runs on a computer you already have at the site (Windows, macOS or Linux, including a Raspberry Pi). If you don’t have one to spare, the Commontray Box plugs in next to the printer, and its screen shows the release code.

Which printers does Commontray work with?

Network printers that accept PDF or support IPP Everywhere, which covers most office printers from the last decade. Printers that only work with a manufacturer’s driver aren’t supported. The free printer checker tells you for each of yours.

Is there a free plan?

Both have one. ezeep’s Free plan covers up to 10 users. Commontray’s Free plan covers one printer for any number of people. See Commontray pricing.
